BERLIN.

Today marks the seven day countdown of my trip to the city of Berlin- the European capital of cool, and I’m pretty excited. I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures for your viewing pleasure. Recommendations of places to go and what to see will be much appreciated.

MASCULINE.

“We’ve entered a period of time when style on all levels is obsessed with heritage, realness and strength. For men, facial hair seems to represent all these things” Jonathan.

I find the clothing that people choose to express themselves in to the world interesting but I am becoming more and more fascinated with faces and the way that a portrait can tell 100 stories, more than ever before.

Movember brought around that one time in the year when every man tries to grow a moustache for charity, I’ve seen some good and also bad attempts.

Beards are big on the streets everywhere today, men are sporting facial hair, proudly displaying beards or moustaches’ all colours, shapes and forms.
When looking into street style photography I came across Scottish street photographer Jonathan Daniel Pryce and found one of his projects whereby he went on a search for the ultimate beard, documenting one a day, this resulted in a book and exhibition featuring slick city bankers to Shoreditch fashionistas, with enough stamina to carry on growing facial hair and enough courage to make it count.

Individuality is always something that is becoming more and more difficult to pin down, but facial hair and portraits shows something about the personality of the person. The story and narrative behind images is almost as important as the photograph itself, therefore I would strongly recommend looking into getting a copy of the book (as I am) as included in the book are anecdotes and quotes on the culture of the beard.

Some of my favourite images above.

For anyone who isn't already following Gogioko on Instagram I highly recommend it.

Together with Adal Giorgis he forms the duo go gioko. They are working on different visual creative projects. The pictures on his Instagram are mostly minimalistic and often mixed with a humorous twist. As his iPhone is his constant companion, he takes pictures of various situiations of his daily life.
